September 2007
WE'RE BACK!!
Well, September has arrived way
too fast for me. At least I do not
need to prepare for school but I
am sure that many of you do.
This past Friday we held a
reception at the fountain in Patterson Park for the
teachers returning to Commodore John Rodgers
School.
The teachers are always so grateful for your
support of their school and their students.
August is always a slow month and the remainder
of the year is filled with events that should keep us
all busy. I want to thank Mayor Sheila Dixon and
City Council president Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and
Jim Kraft for seeing the importance of listening to
your concerns at our August meeting. I was
disappointed that many of the other candidates
who promised to attend did not, nor did they offer
an excuse for their absence. Don’t forget to vote
on September 11th.
I hope that many of you get will get out and
volunteer in and around our community now that
we are all done with summer vacations. Getting
and giving go hand in hand.
At this month’s meeting Tekla Ayers, Center
Director & Educator for the Patterson Park Audubon
Center, will be our guest speaker.
October is our artist meeting and that is always a
great way to see new art from our community and
surrounding Baltimore artists.

SPREAD THE WORD: SANITATION ENFORCEMENT TO
INCREASE THIS MONTH!
RATS are a major health problem in our cities. Sanitation
Enforcement officers have been targeting the business and
community "hot spots" in the city where trash seems to be
dumped illegally, issuing citations if initial contact hasn’t improved
the problem. This month they will continue to monitor
these areas and begin to conduct evening-before-pickup
enforcement.
Any trash put out before the morning of pickup that is not in ratproof
cans with tight-fitting lids may result in a citation being
issued to an individual and/or property owner.
Every household is responsible for trash on their own
premises, which includes adjacent gutter and alley. If not in a
rat-proof can with a tight-fitting lid, trash may only be placed on
the sidewalk the MORNING OF PICKUP. Rats are nocturnal
feeders and nest near where they feed. Please remind
neighbors that fines begin at $50, and if unpaid, become a lien
against the property. Want more information? Join us at
any Streetscape Committee meeting.
NOTE: Those who live on the west side of Washington
Street, Chapel Street and the1900 block of East Pratt
and Lombard please be aware that your trash collection
days are Monday and Thursday. This difference in
trash collection days has caused some confusion in the
neighborhood.

Megin sporting her designs and standing beside her display at the unveiling in August
PROFILE: Artist MEGIN DIAMOND
Butchers Hill Artist Pioneers Multi-purpose Art Jewelry that also Serves as Ornamental Home Decor
On August 19, 2007 Megin Diamond
unveiled a collection of multi-purpose art in
Bridgehampton, New York. Her new
collection is both jewelry that moves and a
fragrance bottle that captures the imagination. Each
piece in the series is able to be worn or used in
multiple ways.
Inventive silversmith, Megin Diamond, and
Celebrity Hairdresser, Richard Stein, have
collaborated and the results are dynamic. For
Stein’s new Fleuremedy Fragrance No 1, Ms.
Diamond perfected a bottle design in a striking hue
of amethyst cut glass featuring a three-tiered floral
arrangement in silver cascading from the neck of the
bottle.
“This bottle is a fine example of what I see as a
trend on the rise, multi-purpose art. In this case, the
handmade bottle ornament also functions as
magnificent jewelry for the hair," says Diamond.
Pioneering the multi-purpose art trend, the 10-
piece ‘Fleurette Collection’ provides much more.
A single ‘Designer Clip’ will shimmer in your hair,
clip onto a necklace or accent your waist.
This limited edition bottle design inspires
images that continue to evolve. Here again,
Diamond’s wearable art manifests itself in the form
of a ‘tip of the hat’ to nature.
The ‘Fleurette Collection’ is comprised of silver
flowers. The sterling silver disks used in this series
are a new formulary for sterling silver that is
practically tarnish-proof.
This is one of many interesting artists we have
living and working in Butchers Hill. I’m sure we
will be hearing many more great things about her!
To see more of Megin’s art go her website at
http://www.MeginDiamond.com
To read up on other artists who live in our
community go to the Butchers Hill website and
click on the photos of the artists to open up
additional pages dedicated to the individual artist.
Remember that the focus on the October General
Meeting will be artists. Don’t miss it!

SEEKING TREE SPONSORS
The Streetscape Committee is working to improve our
neighborhood by requesting the City plant trees where we
have empty tree pits. In order for this to be accomplished
we have to identify a sponsor for each tree. This is someone
who lives near the tree pit who will get permission, if
needed, and will agree to water the new tree for 2 years. We
still have a number of potential tree sites that need sponsors
by mid-September if the city is to plant this fall! Please
contact Barry Glassman if you are
interested in helping us add trees to Butchers Hill.
