February 2010

It’s the start of a new year, and a new decade.  A time when most of us think about new beginnings, make resolutions and plans, set goals and prioritize.  Something we should do on an ongoing basis, but feel more compelled at the start of something new.  So much has been accomplished in the past several years, and the current committees are doing a good job of maintaining the neighborhood as a great place to live.  As the year begins, the Association also has a great new board. We too are setting goals for what we would like to accomplish over the next 12 months that further builds our community

One objective is to get to know more of our neighbors and to grow the number involved in the Association.  We plan to build this concept block by block.  Stoop sitting is one way to begin to know our neighbors and then having block gatherings.

Another objective is for BHA to do a Better Job of Reinforcing Green Initiatives.  How can we convince households to recycle on an ongoing basis?  Several different ideas were suggested but would love to hear more.

I would also like to see our website updated. What would you like to see added to the website?

We have 12 meetings throughout the year.  One is the summer picnic and another is the winter holiday party.  In February Jim Kraft will join us and discuss in what direction our new mayor may take Baltimore.  In March we will vote on the budget.  What events/ lectures/ information would motivate you to join us at our monthly meetings?

Lots of questions here.  Your input is important.  If you have other ideas, or would like to be involved in any activities as the year progresses, please communicate with me or any of the other board members.  You can reach me at 410-675-4948 (home) or 410-209-9677 (cell) or torisimms.bha@gmail.com

May 2010 be a better year for all of us!  See you in the hood!

-Tori Simms,

                                                 President BHA

THIS MEANS EVERYONE ...

Everyone is responsible for keeping their own pet droppings and garbage in their own rat-proof container with a tight-fitting lid, and placing it out for collection.   When everyone takes full responsibility for their own pets and garbage – everyone gets to live in a clean, rat-free community.

Please do not put your pet’s waste into someone else’s trash can.  Some of our neighbors have been very upset, when bringing their emptied trash can into the house, realized that someone had used their trash can to put their pet’s filled waste bag in.

DO NOT USE PLASTIC BAGS FOR RECYCLING

With single stream recycling materials go to a processing facility using an automated system to sort and bale recyclables.  Plastic bags jam the automated machinery.  Most retailers now collect used shopping bags for recycling (even used dry cleaning bags).  Put recyclables in paper bags, cardboard boxes, City
